BLIS K12™ is a specific strain of bacteria called Streptococcus salivarius K12, which is found naturally in your mouth and throat. Our scientists discovered that while everyone has Streptococcus salivarius bacteria in their oral microbiome, not many have a lot of the specific beneficial BLIS K12™ strain which is active against bad bacteria.
BLIS K12™ - what does it do?
BLIS K12™ colonises in the oral cavity by attaching to cells in your mouth and crowding out ‘bad’ bacteria through the process known as bacterial interference. Taking this oral probiotic will boost the levels of BLIS K12™ in the oral cavity and will actively crowd out bad bacteria which can negatively affect ENT heath such as Streptococcus pyogenes. BLIS K12™ is also very effective against the bacteria that can cause bad breath, when used in a specific oral care regime.
BLIS K12™ - how does it work?
Years of research went into uncovering the best approach to deliver BLIS K12™ to the mouth and throat in a way that would allow it to colonise effectively. Lozenges and powder are ideal formats as BLIS K12™ can stay alive in that format for at least two years when stored correctly.
BLIS probiotics are shelf-stable in their dry format, so there is no need for refrigeration The good bacteria is activated when it dissolves in the mouth, where conditions are moist and warm. The longer it stays in the mouth, the better the colonisation, and the more bad bacteria can be crowded out. This is why we always suggest that slowly sucking on a lozenge is strongly recommended. For infants who are unable to suck a lozenge, we can offer a powdered format so our little ones can benefit from the probiotics.
Getting optimum benefits from BLIS probiotics
It’s important to take BLIS K12™ regularly as a daily supplement, not as an acute treatment. Maintaining a healthy population of bacteria in the mouth and throat is the most effective way of providing the best support for ENT health and immunity.
